Hatfield Sharks Head Coach

The Hatfield Sharks Head Coach must be an experienced and accountable individual who excels in leadership and organizational skills. The foundation of this job is to develop the skills and talents of the athletes you work with, but this is just the beginning. The head coach will also assist in hiring, training and scheduling assistant coaches and provide support to the diving coaches. This person will serve as liaison between the Aquatic Center Director and the coaching staff, team members, swim team parent board, and league. The head coach will also work with other HAC staff in a coordinated effort for set up and break down of equipment for practices and meets. This position requires direct supervision of team members during all practices and meets in accordance with HAC policies and rules.

• Technical Qualifications

The Hatfield Sharks provide a competitive experience for participants up to age 18. The team competes in the BuxMont Summer Swimming and Diving League. The coach must have sufficient knowledge of efficient and effective stroke techniques with particular emphasis on evaluating and improving mechanics by providing swimmers feedback and direction in a timely manner.

• Logistics Planning

The position requires extensive knowledge of the software Team Manager. The coach is responsible for coordinating and implementing schedules for home and away meets, creating meet lineups to successfully challenge other teams, completing entry forms and assuring league compliance requirements. Duties can also include working with HAC management to reserve the pool for practice times and other team events, setting the practice schedule and directing lane assignments.

• Communication

The coach must communicate effectively with the children and teens that make up the team. However, much of the communication required in this position is with the parents and caregivers of the swimmers, the swim team parent board members and aquatic center management and staff. The coach must be a leader and role model in exhibiting a winning spirit and good sportsmanship. The coach will be expected to foster continued growth of the team.
