Hatfield Township has numerous ordinances that govern certain rules and regulations. The following is a partial list of the most commonly considered ordinances. These summaries are meant to be a guide; please be sure to review the full ordinances online, or you may also view a copy of any of our ordinances at the Police Department or Township Administration office.
Ordinance # 101 Snow Ordinance
Hatfield Township and Borough require that you remove snow from your sidewalks after an accumulation of two inches or more of snow. A clear two-foot wide pathway is required within 18 hours after snowfall ceases. Vehicles are required to be removed from all streets in Hatfield Township and from snow emergency routes in Hatfield Borough. Read more.
Ordinance # 254.1 Weed Ordinance
The owner or occupant of a property in Hatfield Township must not let grass or weeds grow over 10 inches. In addition, no vegetation may be allowed to remain that:
- Creates an unpleasant or noxious odor
- Conceals any filthy deposit
- Produces pollen, or
- Is a habitation for rodents that would be detrimental to public health, welfare or safety.
This ordinance also allows the township to require the owner or occupant of the property to trim or remove such grass, weeds, or vegetation within five days of notice, or the township may remove them and charge the owner or occupant for removal plus a ten-percent penalty.
Ordinance # 362 Emergency Alarm Regulations
This ordinance requires any person who engages in the altering, installing, leasing, maintaining, repairing, replacing, selling, or servicing of emergency police and fire alarm systems to obtain a permit, and shall pay an annual fee to Hatfield Township. (State law prohibits three (3) or more false or misuse activations occurring within a 12-month period in Hatfield Township and Hatfield Borough, a violator shall be liable for a fine of not less than fifty ($50.00) dollars nor more than six hundred ($600.00) dollars.)
Ordinance # 400 Noise Ordinance
This ordinance prohibits noise that crosses residential property lines including:
- Intentional operation of radios, televisions, or similar devices as to create a noise disturbance
- Using a loudspeaker or similar device between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
- Possessing a pet that causes a frequent or continued noise disturbance, or
- Loading or unloading materials that causes a noise disturbance between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., except by permit.
In addition, operating a large truck or vehicle for more than five minutes within 150 feet of a residential area, except in traffic or in an emergency, is prohibited between 8 p.m and 7 a.m. Operating loud construction equipment between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., or any time on a weekend or holiday is also prohibited.
Ordinance # 401 Curfew Ordinance
Both Hatfield Township and Hatfield Borough have ordinances regulating how late children may be out in public at night. It is unlawful for any parent, guardian or custodian to allow or permit any child under sixteen years of age to remain in any public place or establishment after 10:30 pm prevailing time and before 5:00 am. For children under age eighteen and over sixteen years of age it is unlawful to remain in a public place after 12 midnight prevailing time and before 5:00 am.
Ordinance # 456 Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the peace, Loitering, Noise Pollution, and Nuisances
Regulates disturbing the peace, loitering, noise pollution, and nuisances.
Ordinance # 501 Registration and Use of Motorized Vehicles
The use of motorized scooters on the sidewalk or streets of Hatfield Township is prohibited. A $25.00 permit fee is required to register your scooter and other motorized vehicles are available at the Police Station. |
