MEETING MINUTES
October 5, 2009
7:00 PM
Chairwoman Farrell called the Hatfield Township’s Vacancy Board Meeting October 5, 2009 meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Chairwoman Farrell asked Mr. Haines to call the roll. Present at the meeting were Commissioner Scott Brown, Commissioner Charles Sisian, Commissioner Thomas Landauer, and Commissioner John Thinnes. Also in attendance were Township Manager Andrew Haines and Solicitor Todd Eisenberg.
Chairwoman Farrell led the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Commissioner Landauer made a motion to approve the meeting agenda and Commissioner Brown seconded the motion. The motion passed with a 5-0 vote.
Mr. Pifer clarified his perception of Jim O’Byrne’s voting record and recent actions. He also restated that Jim O’Byrne should be appointed as Commissioner due to his experience as a former commissioner and knowledge of budgets.
Commissioner Thinnes stated that he could be wrong, but felt that history was going to repeat itself tonight with the vote for the vacancy position.
Commissioner Brown made a motion for Resolution 09-35 to appoint Lisa Correale as Ward 3 Commissioner for a term to expire on 12/31/2009 and Commissioner Landauer seconded the motion.
Commissioner Browned stated that this candidate was not tied to any special interests within the Township. In the history of Hatfield Township, there have only been two women who have served as Commissioner and Commissioner Brown feels that her experience, commitment and professionalism will bring a new perspective.
Commissioner Landauer noted that Ms. Correale would be a fine addition to the Board as the best candidate and he felt that she would work well with the Board.
Commissioner Sisian repeated his sentiments from the last Board meeting and expressed that candidate Larry Hughes should be appointed to the Board with his experience on the Planning Commission and his standing in the last election.
Robert Nolen, Fairgrounds Road
Mr. Nolen appreciated Commissioner’s Sisian’s effort in appointing Mr. Hughes and noted that Mr. Hughes has been active with Hatfield Township for years. Mr. Nolen also acknowledged the Board’s procedure regarding this appointment.
Cynthia Bourgeois, 1228 Quincy Court
Ms. Bourgeois noted that there might not always be a consensus among the Board, despite the Board’s political affiliation, and that was a strength. Ms. Bourgeois recognized the thorough and open process of this appointment and supports the nomination for Ms. Correale as Commissioner.

The motion passed with a 3-2 vote.
Commissioner Brown motioned for adjournment and Commissioner Landauer seconded the motion. The motioned carried a 4-0 and the meeting was adjourned at 7:22PM.
